A huge congratulations to our young people who tapped their way to victory this month in the TT Rockstars ‘England Rocks’ maths competition.
Draycott Moor College came in 1st place out of all 26 SEN schools taking part in the competition, taking a lead of almost three times as many points.
And if that wasn’t enough, competing against primary and secondary schools from right across the country, Draycott’s young people placed in 5th position overall with their average 4762 points, with an advantage of over 1000 points ahead of the next position.
“With this result, I think that next time a TTRockstars competition comes along, there will be a real determination to perform well, and strive to achieve the best that they can as a team. They worked so hard together to work their way up to their well-deserved place on the podium.” says Maths Lead, John Clamp, who organised the school’s participation in the tournament.
“The 10 students involved in the tournament were able to see their table position and began to realise the power of teamwork in helping them to climb the table. It was fantastic to see them working together with such enthusiasm and encouraging each other to do that little bit more every day to ensure the schools success.”
Times Tables Rock Stars is a carefully sequenced programme of daily times tables practice. Each week concentrates on a different times table, with regular consolidation weeks for rehearsing the tables that have recently been practiced. This format has been successful in boosting times tables recall speed for both primary and secondary children worldwide.
On their success, Head Teacher Kerry Lynch-Wood said, “We are incredibly proud of our students at Draycott. This competition celebrates maths, but it also celebrates perseverance, teamwork and determination amongst our young people. We have every intention of winning in every category next time!”
Congratulations to everyone who took part, and everyone who supported the young people in putting in all the time and effort – it was well worth it!
