Horizon Care and Education have an exciting opportunity for an Assistant Head Teacher at Great Howarth School, based in the Rochdale area.

We are looking to recruit a candidate who will lead our pastoral support, with a focus on pupil behaviour and relationships, wellbeing and attendance.

At Great Howarth, we are a holistic school educating learners from the age of 7 - 18 with social, emotional, and mental health difficulties, including ADHD and autism. Situated in a quiet area of Rochdale, Great Howarth supports the provision of up to 35 pupils. We support our pupils with the familiarity, predictability, structure and boundaries that they need to be successful in life.

Our specialist independent schools offer unrivalled opportunities, securing sound educational outcomes with personalised, inclusive, and stimulating programmes of learning. We provide education and support to children and young people who have complex special educational needs and require their SEN provision to be delivered in a specialist setting.

The successful applicants will need:

  • Experience working in an SLT role, ideally in a similar environment
  • Be an Ofsted expert, maintain and build your understanding of requirements, helping the school move towards an Outstanding rating.
  • Ability to motivate, drive and support staff and pupils, using a person-centred approach.
  • A real 'can do, will do' attitude, with the desire to succeed and improve our school.
  • Have a commitment and passion to work with pupils with social, emotional and mental health needs, along with a range of other difficulties including trauma, attachment and associated challenging behaviours
  • Have a clear vision, strong leadership, and effective management skills.
  • An exceptionally enthusiastic and committed leader to manage and motivate pupils and staff, and can lead, motivate, and inspire teams to raise standards in student outcomes.
  • Is familiar with the need for creativity in delivering the National Curriculum, whilst supporting pupils to overcome their barriers to learning.
  • Have a solid understanding of the new Ofsted Education Inspection Framework and Independent School Standards
