Woodbury School Hosts an Inspiring Deaf Awareness Assembly on Communication

Today was an inspiring day at Woodbury School! Our fantastic Pastoral Lead, Kirstie, and her brother, who is deaf, led an eye-opening assembly that left everyone buzzing with excitement. The theme of the assembly focused on the power of communication, particularly within the deaf community, and how they connect with the world around them.

Kirstie and her brother shared personal stories and valuable insights, emphasising the importance of inclusive communication. They captivated the audience with demonstrations of British Sign Language (BSL), showing us just how expressive and beautiful it can be. It was wonderful to see all the students enthusiastically trying out simple signs—there was a real sense of energy in the room!

The assembly wasn’t just informative—it was also full of laughter and fun. Kirstie’s brother added humour and warmth, reminding us that communication goes beyond words. It can be gestures, facial expressions, and even the rhythm of body language.

By the end, everyone left with a greater understanding and appreciation for the diverse ways in which we can communicate. A huge thank you to Kirstie and her brother for such an engaging and meaningful experience!
