We are delighted to announce that Great Howarth School has been awarded the School Games Gold Mark Award for the 2024/25 academic year!
The School Games Mark is a Government-led award scheme, launched in 2012 and facilitated by the Youth Sport Trust. It recognises and rewards schools for their commitment to the development of school sport and competition both within school and the wider community. We are proud to have been recognised for our continued efforts and success in this area.
This year, a significant number of our young people took part in local inter-school competitions, and we are incredibly proud of their dedication. We also want to recognise the fantastic work of our young volunteers, leaders, and officials, whose efforts were essential in making these events possible.
As part of the application process, we were asked to meet criteria in areas such as participation, competition, workforce, and clubs. After initially applying for Silver, assessors visiting the school recognised our strong commitment to physical activity, school sport, and healthy lifestyles – and we were instead put forward for Gold. Following moderation, the award has now been officially confirmed.
Congratulations to the Great Howarth team for this outstanding achievement, and for championing opportunities that support the wellbeing and development of all our pupils.
We look forward to building on this success and applying again in 2026!
