Careers Education at Bushbury School

Our Careers Programme

At Bushbury School, our careers programme has been carefully designed to meet the needs of autistic learners in a structured, nurturing, and aspirational environment.

While our current cohort is not yet of school-leaving age, we have already established a clear and robust framework for careers education that will grow with our students as they progress through the school.

The programme includes:

• Access to Morrisby profiling to support self-awareness and future planning

• Use of the Skills Builder framework to develop employability and life skills

• Engagement with independent and impartial careers advice

• Structured careers education lessons embedded within the curriculum

• Planned employer engagement and supported work experience opportunities

Our careers offer is inclusive, autism-friendly, and focused on long-term outcomes for our learners.

Information for Students:

We want our students to understand their strengths, explore their interests, and know that there are future opportunities that suit them as individuals. Through a structured and supportive programme, students will learn that careers can take many forms and that their talents are valued in the world of work.

Information for Parents & Carers:

We want parents and carers to feel reassured that their child will receive high-quality, tailored careers guidance as they grow older. Our programme is designed to evolve with the student, and we are committed to working in partnership with families to support aspirations and next steps.

Information for Employers:

We are actively developing partnerships with inclusive employers and organisations who are open to working with young autistic individuals. As our pupils move towards work experience and employment, we will be seeking structured, supported opportunities that build confidence and promote long-term success.

Work Experience

Although none of our current students are yet ready for work experience, we have a clear model in place for supporting young people into meaningful, structured placements.

These will be carefully matched to each student’s needs, interests, and readiness, with strong support from staff and families throughout.

Benefits of Work Experience:

For Students:

· Increased confidence and self-esteem.

· Enhanced understanding of different careers and industries.

· Development of key employability skills, such as communication, teamwork, and problem-solving.

· Opportunity to gain valuable work experience.

For Employers:

· Increased engagement with the local community.

· Opportunity to build relationships with schools and educational institutions.

· Exposure to new talent and ideas.

· Potential future employees.

For the School:

· Enhanced reputation and community engagement.

· Improved student outcomes and career prospects.

· Increased opportunities for collaboration and partnerships.

Impact and Review Information

As our careers programme grows, we will review its impact through regular evaluation, including feedback from students, families, and staff.

We will track student aspirations, skill development, and eventually destination outcomes as our first cohort approaches school-leaving age.
