Supporting Your Future at Tipton Green College

At Tipton Green College, we are committed to helping you explore and achieve your future goals and aspirations. That’s why we provide a dedicated Careers Lead within school who is always available to support you with questions, applications, and any information you may need.

We also work closely with Sandwell Connexions, an independent service offering impartial careers advice and guidance for both you and your parents or carers. We ensure that careers is explored at the earliest stage which is why we ensure that CEIAG Is delivered from years 7.

Key Stage 3

In KS3, Careers is all about self discovery, understanding who you are, what you like and don’t like and where you see yourself working. You’ll have lots of opportunities to build your essential skills, learn about the world of work through our careers curriculum and take part in trips and visits.

Key Stage 4 & 5

In KS4 & 5, we continue the learning journey and ensure that you are prepared to make informed decisions based on your wishes for your future.
We do this by:
• Visits to colleges and apprenticeship providers
• Careers fairs
• Direct conversations with employers about the world of work and training.

Throughout your time at Tipton Green, you can also gain hands-on experience through work placements and external training, where for one or two days a week, you’ll step into the working world and explore careers that interest you.

This is all mapped to your future, what suits you and what you need to achieve. To further support your development, you’ll take part in programmes such as The King’s Trust, Skills Builder, and Morrisby.

These are designed to help you build the essential skills, confidence, and knowledge needed to succeed in your future education, training, or employment.

Understanding Labour Market Intelligence (LMI)::

Labour Market Intelligence (LMI) is a valuable resource for students exploring future career opportunities.
It provides insights into:
• The types of jobs in demand within the local area
• The skills and qualifications required for various roles
• Future employment trends and emerging sectors

As the job market continues to evolve, understanding LMI is becoming increasingly important. It helps students make informed decisions about their education, training, and career pathways by showing where specific job roles are most needed across the country and which sectors are likely to experience growth.

Impact and Review Information

We measure the success of our careers programme using a combination of methods. We gather regular feedback from students, parents, and staff to assess satisfaction, engagement, and the perceived impact of career activities.

We aim to give each student in years 11-13 at least 3 meaningful encounters per year with colleges, apprenticeships and employers via careers fairs, visits and work experience. Employer engagement and the number of meaningful encounters with the world of work are also tracked against the Gatsby Benchmarks.

Tipton Green College works closely with the Careers and Enterprise Company. This is an external organisation that supports schools to ensure they are following the DFEs Careers Strategy. As an educational establishment we ensure that we use the 8 Gatsby Benchmarks as a foundation when planning our Careers Strategy. This supports us to measure and assess the impact of our careers programme using the following methods:

• Pupil career surveys
• Destination data
• Work experience placements which enhance pupil CV’s
• Employer evaluations for work experience placement
• Compass audit review is conducted 4 times during the year and is used to measure against the Gatsby benchmarks
