managing their own behaviours
• Parents to develop understanding and appropriate management
strategies
Support provided includes:

plans and reactive strategies.
• Anger management, understanding sexuality and relationships,
attachment problems, counselling, communication and support,
self injury and self harm, alternatives to challenging behaviours,
functional analysis and developing age appropriate and purposeful
activities.
We offer an holistic, person centred approach
and use behaviour management strategies that focus on the
avoidance of confrontation and use of consistent, risk assessed
planned interventions.
The clinician works with staff to address their perceptions
of difficult behaviours, develop confidence, improve awareness
and promote consistency. The approach focuses not only on
behaviour change but also on successful behaviour management.
Outreach Support to assist parents understand the complexities
underlying the behaviours and to develop strategies for the
management of challenging behaviour within their place of
origin is also available. Routinely planned sessions help
implement management plans used within the organisation, and
allow a friendly face to help ease any anxieties about the
progression home or the transition to a new placement.
Individual therapeutic work with young people can be provided
if appropriate. Our clinician specialises in Cognitive Behaviour
Therapy an approach that is based on the belief that behaviour
can be changed if the cognitions (beliefs) are challenged.
Strategies used would include forming a functional analysis
of the causes of the current behaviours. Researched techniques
used to implement this approach evidence a high success rate
of behaviour modification.
